George Romero - Land Of The Dead

Ever hear of it? Ever seen it? You should.

Romero has always been know for his uncanny ability to approach societies issues wrapped up in a good zombie-horror film.

Night Of The Living Dead - Racism, 50's.

Dawn Of The Dead - Commercialism and the zombie-like way of buying your way through life

Day Of The Dead - Unsure, need to watch again but revolved around testing on the dead.

Land Of The Dead - Feudalistic societies where the poor stay poor and Dennis Hopper is King. The dead, for the most part, leave them be and do their dead thang until one raid is noticed by an evolved dead and then...there is hell to pay.

Diary Of The Dead - I'm not sure...haven't seen it.

Anyway, the point being that this film, Land, is another one of those Romero classics where it's sucking the hore-gore freaks in with ridiculously impressive ways of displaying intestines while slapping a little meaning at you to take a look around at the world and make a change.

I think everyone should try to sit through the Romero films, just to get the message because the messages are worth it.

Romero's films aren't perfect however. While one can become entranced in the way he weaves his story around societal issues, there is something about his films that makes you feel like you got left behind. I can't quite put my hand on it but, sometimes I feel like I'm in the dust.

Just a shit sandwich for ya' to chew on.

Roy Scheider...The Shit!

Quint from Ain't It Cool has reported the sad news. Roy Scheider is dead.

Roy Scheider and Jaws had a big impact on me when I was way younger. You see, I watched the film when it came out so, I was a youngin'; maybe around five or six. Laying on my stomach on our old carpeted, living room rug I watched Jaws. I then eventually retreated to the couch and would pull my legs up from the edge because...you know...Jaws can get you anywhere! It's fucking JAWS. If a large fishing boat crumples under his weight, what good is my far-from-new sofa? The moment though, which turned me was when Brody killed the shark. With much affection, my mom reminded me of something very interesting. Apparently when the Shark blew up, I cried. I was sad that they had killed the shark. The fucking shark!

Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, Steven Speilberg, and Robert Shaw made such an amazing film that I was able to actually feel for a 25 foot shark. I didn't hate Brody, I loved him. But, I loved the shark as well. You see, great actors help create a world that an audience member can believe and live to its fullest. Roy did this time and again with every film he was in.

So I cried when the Shark died.

He touched me, Quint, some of us in one way or another. He brought an intensity to his characters that made them extremely believable.

I won't say "I'll miss him" and that "I'm sad he's gone."

I'm just happy he hung out as long as he did.

See you later, Roy. Be at peace. And always remember...

SMILE! YOU SON OF A BITCH!
